As part of your initial consultation, you will also have your blood pressure taken.

Blood pressure is the measure of force that the heart uses when it pumps blood around your body.

Systolic pressure (heart pushing blood out) and diastolic pressure (pressure when heart rests between beats) are measured.

Normal ranges are between 90/60mmHg and 120/80mmHg.

High blood pressure [hypertension] is 140/90mmHg or higher.

Low blood pressure is 90/60mmHg or lower.
